The researches carried out in the “Molecular Chemistry and Materials” group of ISM are using tools of organic and organometallic chemistry in order to create materials with controlled properties. They are achieved within many multidisciplinary industrial collaborations and are focused around three major topics :
1) Reactive porous materials
2) Chemical modifications and biofunctionalisations of surfaces
3) Organic-inorganic hybrid materials
The applications developed stand in various domains, mainly catalysis, green chemistry, environment, sensors, photovoltaic devices, immunosensors and energetic materials.
The concepts and methodologies used are quite original and innovative. Results are published in high impact factor journals or patented and succeed in industrial contracts with foreign companies : AKZO-NOBEL (Netherlands) in the domain of radical chemistry, SMITHKLINE-BEECHAM (UK) about supported chemistry, and CROMPTON (Germany) concerning organotin catalysts. The expertise of the group in microcellular polymer materials is behind lasting collaborations with the “Commissariat à l’Énergie Atomique” (CEA), ARKEMA and the “Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux” (CIVB). Moreover, its know-how in the fields of hybrid materials and surfaces modifications are established also at home and abroad, as evidenced by its participation to networks (excellence European network "FAME : Functional Advanced Materials and Engineering ; Hybrids and Ceramics") and to national and European programs (ACI, ANR 2005 "Solaire Photovoltaïque, ANR 2006 PRECODD (Projet BIOALERT, ANR 2006 EMBP (Projet CAPCELL), ANR-2010-P2N (Projet BIONANOTIP).
