Chemical Modifications and Biofunctionalisations of Surfaces

Many applications in biotechnology, such as nucleic acid microarrays or immunosensors, require solid supports with specific surface properties. An underlying technology on which a large number of biosensors are based is the covalent attachment of biomolecules to solid surfaces.

A lot of effort has been done in the chemical modification of surfaces and a wide range of protocols to functionalize silica-based substrates has been described in the literature. However, there is still a strong demand for alternative routes or for improving existing methods to produce durable, tailor-made surfaces.

Our projects currently in progress in these areas include :
- Immunosensors
- Immunoassays
- Dendritic coupling agents and superparamagnetic nanoparticles (MNPs)
