Boron Chemistry

  • We currently develop methodologies for the synthesis of boron containing derivatives. In all our methodologies, scale up possibilities and easy purification are key components in order to make those method amenable to any chemist. We are interested mostly in creating practical and efficient preparation of boron derivatives using simple reagents. We now have several air and moisture stable derivatives in hand for borylation reactions, either using classical addition of organometallics (R-Li, RMgX), via transition metal catalyzed reaction, or using novel metal borylation methods. The goal is to have methods amenable to larger scale processes in batch or flow chemistry. On the fundamental side, our main interest in Boron Chemistry is using the huge range of reactivity displayed by various boron derivatives to design original C-B bond forming reactions.
  • Our expertise in this domain is related to boronic acid synthesis, borinic acids synthesis, aminoborane, amine borane complexes, functional group interconversion, large scale preparation of boron derivatives.


  • On the chemical side, we developed a reliable and efficient ways of immobilizing a catalyst on solid matrices. Advantages of homogeneous catalysis including the kinetics and selectivities remain unchanged but the workup is facilitated as simple filtration followed by concentration is often sufficient to obtain pure product. We are now implementing these approaches for chemical activation using nanosized catalysts.
  • Our expertise in this area is related to nanoparticle formation and characterization, optimization of reaction conditions, recycling, lamellar inorganic materials, clays.


  • On the technology side, we implemented in our lab, since 2008, the possibilities of using continuous reactors at the laboratory scale, in micro and millifluidics. This paradigm change in the organic chemistry is allowing for better productivities and selectivities while increasing the heat exchange and diminishing drastically the safety risks. We have successfully implemented 3 reaction in pilot scale through industrial collaborations.
  • Our expertise in this field is related to reactions condition optimization in flow chemistry, alternative condition screening, non-classical synthesis, supercritical fluids, gas-liquid-solid flow systems, micromixers.

We have in hand a Synthesis Fluidic Plateform, fully operational for our team and available for collaboration.
